Somerset Construction was outstanding.

Somerset did an excellent job on our renovation at a very competitive price. Our foreman was exceptional as he treated our addition as if it was his own house. He paid attention to all details. I was also very impressed with the suggestions that Somerset made to improve the architectural drawings. Somerset employs high quality trades. The president met with me on a regular basis to review completed work and discuss next steps. Overall, I highly recommend Somerset.

Somerset – Great Work on a difficult Reno!

We undertook a major and complicated reno of our house. (we moved out, it took 1 year to complete). From our first dealings with Graeme Sperber and Somerset we were really impressed, and the whole job went very smoothly. First of all, they inspired confidence – they were much more organized and thorough than other builders who were asked to bid on the job. They got to work right away and respected our timelines. They immediately responded to queries and requests, and worked very cooperatively with our architect. We had a site supervisor who was dedicated to ensuring everything was done properly and on time. We were also very impressed with Somerset’s choice of trades – plumbers, painters, carpenters, etc were all great. Somerset has also been very attentive to correcting/ completing items post-construction as well. We would definitely choose Somerset again and we highly recommend them!

My wife and I hired Somerset Construction (Graeme Sperber) in the summer after purchasing a house built in the 1960’s which required updating in every possible way. We worked with Somerset Construction, Architect (Richard Wengle) and Interior Designer (SG Designs) to compete a complete gut and rebuild of the entire interior and some exterior work as well. Somerset were an absolute pleasure to deal with and completed their work on time without sacrificing quality. I have renovated many time before and would definitely use Somerset again in the future (I can’t say the say for anyone else I have ever used). Graeme was always easy to deal with and resolved problems (unavoidable in a renovation this size) in a very business like and timely manner. His trades were all skilled workers and all had very competitive pricing. Lastly, Graeme has been excellent in clearing up any deficiencies in workmanship, after the job was complete (very few).

Good work deserves recognition and too often in Reno work homeowners don’t appreciate the good structural and utility work that goes into making the whole project work. I’ve been a member and director of the London Home Builders Assn. for about 40 years and have been part of every aspect of construction from excavation to key turnover so I recognize good work.

When a renovation was in order for my son’s family home they did the exactly correct thing; research the contractors, get the advice and trust the credentials because you only get one shot to get it right. So he chose Somerset Construction; good choice. I’ve been popping in every week or so from London and I like what I’m seeing from piping to ductwork, precise framing and box-ins, insulation and drywall, it’s all good. You can cover a lot of sins with drywall but they’re still there waiting to crack, leak, or bulge so the work behind the walls is very important. 

So what can I say; I’m not easily impressed but here I am, so impressed that I would recommend Somerset in an Instant.

In regards to the company known as Somerset Construction. The professional attitude and exceptional work ethic this company brings to the table in regards to the construction of a number of our retail locations in the greater Toronto area has made my work load just that much lighter. From the main principals and support staff in the office to the quality trades people on our sites, all conduct themselves in a professional manner. The quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail make our locations the envy of the paint retail industry in my opinion.

We were referred to Graeme from a close friend who had utilized him to get a major reno complete. Graeme was always on time, knowledgeable and friendly. Never felt taken advantage of or ripped off while working with him. His honesty is unmatched.

We had a 5month hard stop on a major renovation including adding a brand new floor. We moved in on time. I think that’s unheard of. Obviously comprimises need to made as issues come up. But I can honestly say that as long as you make your decisions on time Somerset can deliver on time.

After purchasing our condo we discussed total renovation with a few construction companies. Somerset impressed us the most & did not disappoint. We retained Graeme @ Somerset Construction to manage the construction of our dream home in Port Credit. Our project was a full teardown of an old side-split house from the 1950’s to build a modern 4000+ sq. ft. home. We were on a strict timeline, and though a few basement walls and some paint had yet to be done, we moved and celebrated Christmas in our new home within 10 months of the demolition of the old house.

Building a house from a hole in the ground is never easy, but Graeme ensured our dealings with the various trades were smooth and, where necessary, fixed promptly. He and his trades made great suggestions along the way without pushing an “upsell” – many little changes we never thought of made a big difference. Every issue and step in the construction plan was addressed in a straight up, direct, and professional manner. Importantly, cost control was always at the forefront of his decisions and suggestions, and I have no doubt our project would have cost much more without his efforts. We have a dream home because of Graeme.
